OFSSAA Rules for 2007 on Scoring and Protective Eyewear

(1)               SCORING: OFSSAA will continue to use the OLD scoring system for 2007 rather than apply the new 21 point rally point scoring system. The International Badminton community and Badminton Canada adopted the new 21-point rally point system in June 2006. As a result of the OFSSAA decision, players in the high school matches leading to, and in the matches at, the OFSSAA Championships will need to be careful to apply the old rules on scoring and sequence of serving, especially in doubles and mixed doubles play, and to adjust their playing strategies accordingly in all events. OFSSAA will consider in June 2007 whether to apply the new 21 point rally point system in 2008.

(2)               PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR:   We understand that OFSSAA has chosen NOT to make the use of protective eyewear mandatory this year, even though the Ontario Badminton Association has made the use of such eyewear mandatory for all junior play when more than two players are on the court. OFSSAA is expected to reconsider the use of protective eyewear for application in 2008, along with the use of the new 21 point rally point scoring system

Any changes to the above rules will be posted as information is received.
