The OWG is a biennial multi-sport event
featuring competition amongst various Ontario
regions in over 20 sports. In the badminton team event athletes compete
for their Provincial District Association vying for the prestigious gold,
silver and bronze medals. It is similar to a mini-Olympics, designed to be fun
and competitive. The event is team based with Junior (under 19) players.
Our district did very well at the 2006 OWG where we won the Bronze team medal
as well as the coach ‘Black Knight Fair Play’ award.
The upcoming OWG will be held on March 6-9,
2008 in Collingwood, Ontario.
The
selected team representing ODBA will engage in vigorous practices and training.
As well, they will learn about team strategies required to succeed in
competition. These provide excellent opportunities and exposure for
inspired junior competitors.
All ODBA junior players (born between 1989
and 1993) are invited to try out for the OWG team. More information about the try-outs will be
announced and posted on ODBA web-site www.badmintonottawa.com as soon as the details are
confirmed. Please stay tuned.
